Men’s Competitions and Sweeps

At the start of 2022 England Golf and the Royal and Ancients made a range of changes to the rules of golf. One of the changes  impacts on how competition fees and sweeps are handled.

From 11/4/2022 the following changes will be made to the collection of fees for club competitions. In addition the Club is introducing an opt out option for all sweeps.

Men’s Sunday and Seniors’ Thursday Sweeps

  • The entry fee for the competition will be £1 and their will be an optional sweep entry fee of £1.
  • If you enter both the sweep and the competition the fee remains at £2

Men’s Sunday and Seniors’ Thursday Medal Competitions

  • The entry fee for the competition will be £2.00 and their will be an optional sweep entry fee of £1
  • If you enter both the sweep and the medal the fee remains at £3

Men’s Monday and Friday Night and Seniors’ Tuesday Sweep

  • There will be no entry fee for these competition and there will be an optional sweep entry fee of £1
  • All sweep monies taken will be paid out to the winners

General rules

  1. Winners who have opted-out of the sweep will receive no sweep winnings.
  2. If a player has opted out of the sweep and won any position in the competition, their winnings will be divided between the remaining eligible winners .
  3. Players who wish to opt out of any of the sweeps must notify the club, they will then be opted out of all for the remaining season.
  4. Players who have opted-out of the sweeps will remain opted out for future seasons, unless they notify the club that they wish to opt-in at the start of the next season.
  5. Where competitions have less than 10 entrants in the sweep, the sweep will be cancelled and sweep fees returned.
  6. Seniors’ Tuesday Sweep can be played at any time on Tuesdays before 12pm.
  7. Seniors’ Thursday Competitions must be played in the allocated competition slots on BRS

Sweep Monies

For all sweeps the winnings will be divided as follows

  • 1st place  50% of the sweep pot
  • 2nd place 30% of the sweep pot
  • 3rd place  20% of the sweep pot

The payment will be rounded down to the nearest 50 pence
